Tom Powers Triple Challenge Futurity ~ HISTORY~ [ Click Here for a PDF of All the Details! ]

Started in 1980, The Tom Powers Futurity is the oldest continuously operating pleasure futurity in the World.

It began with two classes, two year old western pleasure and two year old hunter under saddle. Total payback the first year was $3500.00. There were about twenty five total entries. Classes were held at Tom's farm in Ada, Michigan either outside in the mud, or in the indoor arena 60 by 240 feet long and dusty.

Despite the unpleasant conditions, the Futurity continued to grow each year. Now entries are well over one thousand and paybacks for 2006 were over $275,000.00 plus trophies and awards.

This event in unique in that it still held outside in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Exhibitors seem to enjoy returning year after year to the excellent campgrounds and great footing that has made this arena well known throughout the industry. Weather is commonly a factor as thunderstorms, rain and wind have caused plenty of excitement in past years. An indoor arena is available but outside is where everyone wants to show their young entries, many for the first time.

The Futurity is held with three AQHA shows and the Breeders Challenge.

Triple Challenge Stallion Trust ~ HISTORY

Started in 1992, this national breeding trust enrolls over three hundred stallions each year. The donated breedings are sold at half price and the money received contributes an additional $40,000 to $50,000 to the Futurity purse each year for entries by stallions whose breedings are sold.

This is a new program, started in 2004. It is a slot entry program which requires the purchase of an entry slot for $250.00 for yearlings and two year olds. The guaranteed added money for these entries is $35,000 making the $250.00 slot entry the best buy in the industry. The slot entry is tied only to the stallion so some flexibility is available to those who own slots. Slots may be sold between colt owners and the entries do not need to be named until April 1, the yearling year.

2005 was the first year for Breeders Challenge entries to show in the yearling longe line class. Both an open and a novice division. Added money of $10,000.00 guaranteed. Click here for more information
